Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge (IFAS)

Integrated fixed-film activated sludge (IFAS) is a biological treatment technology that combines suspended growth and biofilm technologies in one reactor. The technology involves introducing attached growth media (fixed or free-floating) to selected zones in an activated sludge tank to dramatically increase the growth of biomass without increasing mixed liquor suspended solids, enhancing the treatment process.
